Position Description
The Vice President, Human Resources is a strategic executive leader responsible for shaping and executing a forward-thinking people strategy that supports the hospital’s mission, culture, and workforce needs. This role drives initiatives across talent strategy, organizational development,
and employee engagement while ensuring alignment with system-wide HR policies and regulatory compliance.

As the senior-most human resources leader at the hospital and key member of the executive leadership team, the Vice President, Human Resources builds trusted relationships across the organization to foster a high-performing, inclusive, and resilient culture.


Reporting Relationship
This position reports jointly to the President and the Senior Vice President, Chief Human Resources Officer of JHM. The Vice President, Human Resources collaborates with enterprise HR Centers of Excellence (e.g., Talent Acquisition, HRIS, Employee Relations) and leads a local HR team supporting 3,200 employees.


Principal Accountabilities
Strategic Leadership

  1. Serve as a key member of the hospital’s executive team, advising on workforce strategy, culture,and operational execution.
  2. Lead the annual HR strategy aligned with organizational goals—particularly in the areas of culture, leadership development, talent management, and workforce planning.
  3. Champion initiatives that foster an inclusive, collaborative, and high-engagement environment.
  4. Serve as a thought partner to the JHACH President and senior leadership on issues affecting the people experience, employee relations, change leadership, and organizational effectiveness.

People & Culture

  1. Build and evolve a workplace culture grounded in trust, equity, performance, and psychological safety.
  2. Lead change management efforts to support major transformations and ensure employee alignment.
  3. Guide leadership development, coaching, and succession planning to build a strong internal talent pipeline.
  4. Champion a culture of engagement by fostering open communication, inclusivity, and accountability; ensure leaders at all levels actively connect with employees through implementing strategies that improve satisfaction, retention, and organizational performance, while tracking progress through clear engagement KPIs such as employee engagement scores, retention rates, and participation in feedback initiatives.

HR Operations & Compliance

  1. Ensure HR practices are fully compliant with local, state, and federal regulations (e.g., ADA, FMLA, EEOC, FLSA).
  2. In collaboration with JHM HR, manage local implementation of programs in compensation, benefits, talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management, and HRIS.
    Ensure effective communication and transparency on HR programs, policies, and initiatives.

Employee Relations

  1. Provides advice to administration, department managers and supervisors on employee relations matters
  2. Makes oral and written presentations at meetings and training programs to educate managers on legal requirements.
  3. Investigates through interviews and document searches for any complaints of employment/labor law/policy violations.

Data Driven Decision Making

  1. Leverage workforce data and analytics to drive insights on retention, engagement, and workforce planning.
  2. Partner with enterprise analytics teams to provide dashboards and actionable insights to leadership.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelors required in Human Resources or related field. Master’s degree or MBA preferred.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of progressive HR leadership, ideally within complex, matrixed healthcare or academic institutions.
  • Experience in a hospital environment is required, Pediatric hospital desirable
  • Proven ability to build and lead high-performing HR teams and partner effectively across functions.
  • Strong business acumen, emotional intelligence, and ability to influence senior stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in organizational development, labor relations, and change management.
  • Deep knowledge of employment law, HRIS, compensation, and talent development best practices.
  • Skilled in conflict resolution, executive coaching, and strategic workforce planning.

Salary Range: Minimum /hour - Maximum /hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
