Job Description

Summary

Dr. Putluri’s laboratory at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated and talented Postdoctoral Associate to join our multidisciplinary cancer research team. The lab is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Associate with strong expertise in cancer biology or molecular biology, and additional skills in bioinformatics/data analysis, to join our multidisciplinary research team at Baylor College of Medicine. The Postdoctoral Associate will work on cutting-edge translational cancer research projects that involves tumor cell signaling, metabolic reprogramming, immuno-oncology, and therapeutic target identification. The lab focuses on understanding metabolic and molecular vulnerabilities driving cancer progression, therapeutic resistance, and tumor–immune interactions. This position offers opportunities to work with cutting-edge cancer models, 3D culture systems, and translational human samples. This position offers the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art platforms, including patient-derived models (PDXs), 3D organoids/spheroids, advanced molecular assays, and multi-omics datasets. Looking for recent PhD graduates or to graduate soon or have completed their PhD within the last three years at the time of application.

Baylor College of Medicine typically follows the NIH stipulated stipend guidelines for Postdoctoral Associates.

Job Duties

  • Conducts in vitro cancer biology experiments, including 2D culture, 3D organoids, spheroids, and patient-derived models.
  • Performs CRISPR/Cas9-mediated gene knockout (KO), siRNA/shRNA-mediated knockdown (KD), and validation of engineered cell lines.
  • Executes molecular and biochemical assays such as qPCR, Western blotting, FACS experiments and analysis, ELISA, flow cytometry, and functional phenotyping.
  • Contributes to the generation and characterization of knockout (KO) mouse models that includes colony maintenance, genotyping, and phenotypic analysis.
  • Performs mouse studies using immune-competent strains and immune-compromised NSG mice, including tumor implantation, drug treatment, and immune profiling.
  • Establishes and monitors orthotopic xenograft models to study tumor growth and progression within relevant tissue microenvironments.
  • Conducts luciferase labeling of cancer cells and use bioluminescence imaging to trace tumor growth and metastasis in vivo.
  • Performs mechanistic studies examining cancer signaling pathways, cytokine biology, therapeutic resistance, and tumor metabolism.
  • Designs and executes xenograft, orthotopic, syngeneic, and PDX in vivo studies.
  • Develops and maintains 3D organoids/spheroids and support in vivo therapeutic testing.
  • Collaborates with experimental biologists, computational biologists, and clinicians to drive mechanistic and translational outputs.
  • Prepares manuscripts, figures, and grant-related materials, and organize data for grant/paper submissions.
  • Presents research findings at internal meetings and national/international conferences.
  • Mentors students and supports collaborative projects across laboratories.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Biology or Biomedical Sciences, or Bioinformatics, or related disciplines.
  • Recent PhD graduates or to graduate soon or have completed their PhD within the last three years at the time of application.
  • Experience in cancer metabolism, tumor microenvironment, or immuno-oncology.
  • Familiarity with multi-omics datasets and pathway analysis.
  • Experience assisting in grant writing or contributing to funded projects.
  • Strong coding experience using R and Python for data analysis.
  • Expertise in the biological interpretation of multi-omics datasets (RNA-seq, proteomics, metabolomics, ChIP-seq, single-cell RNA-seq, and spatial data) and experience in multi-omics data integration.
  • Ability to develop algorithms and code for innovative multi-omics data analysis.
