Heat Treat Process Engineer, Aerospace Manufacturing

Location: Trenton, MI

Employment: Full-Time, Hourly

Shift: Monday–Friday, 6:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

A day in the life

Your morning starts with a review of overnight furnace charts—temperature uniformity, load thermocouples, and quench data—confirming alignment to AMS and NADCAP requirements. You update a heat-treat recipe, walk the floor to verify calibration tags, and coach operators on a new tempering sequence. Midday brings a root-cause session on hardness variation, where you dive into microstructure, quench severity, and fixture design. By afternoon, you’re finalizing work instructions for a new part launch and prepping evidence for an upcoming NADCAP audit. Throughout it all, you’re elevating process capability, product integrity, and safety.

What you’ll own

• Develop, optimize, and sustain thermal processes: hardening, tempering, annealing, carburizing, and stress relieving.
• Create and maintain process documentation, work instructions, and heat‑treat recipes for consistent execution.
• Monitor furnace health and performance, temperature uniformity, and calibration to meet AMS, NADCAP, and customer specifications.
• Troubleshoot distortion, hardness variability, microstructure deviations, and quench performance issues.
• Support metallurgical evaluations, hardness checks, and microstructure reviews.
• Lead root‑cause analysis and drive corrective and preventive actions for nonconformances.
• Partner with Quality, Production, and Maintenance to ensure robust, repeatable process control.
• Implement continuous improvements that reduce scrap, improve throughput, and increase process reliability.
• Assist with NADCAP audits, documentation, and closure of findings.
• Develop heat‑treat process flows for new product introductions and launches.

What you bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related discipline.
• Experience with heat‑treat operations in aerospace or precision manufacturing (preferred).
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to interpret blueprints, specifications, and metallurgical requirements.
