Job Title: Assistant Project Manager – Commercial Millwork
Department: Project Management
Reports To: COO
Position Summary
The Assistant Project Manager (APM) drives the day-to-day execution of commercial architectural millwork projects from pre-construction through fabrication and field installation. This role owns coordination across all project stakeholders, including General Contractors, architects, designers, subcontractors, shop personnel, and installers, to ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with contract and quality standards.
The ideal candidate has experience in commercial construction and a working knowledge of architectural millwork, casework, finishes, hardware, and installation sequencing.
Key Responsibilities
Project Administration & Coordination
• Coordinate multiple projects in alignment with Project Manager direction.
• Interpret contracts and construction documents to ensure scope coverage.
• Develop, maintain, and enforce project schedules aligned with GC master schedules.
• Own tracking and execution of submittals, approvals, RFIs, and change orders.
• Maintain complete and audit-ready digital and physical project documentation.
Submittals & Shop Drawing Management
• Lead the preparation, coordination, and submission of shop drawings for review.
• Validate scope completeness and accuracy of drawings prior to internal review.
• Maintain and drive submittal logs to ensure timely approvals and resubmissions.
• Distribute and communicate approved drawings with stakeholders to ensure align
GC & Client Coordination
• Serve as primary point of contact for scheduling, site conditions, and project updates.
• Generate and manage RFIs, ensuring timely resolution and clear communication.
• Support change order pricing, ensure timely submission and approvals.
Procurement & Production Support
• Track purchased materials, assist with purchasing as required.
• Monitor and expedite long-lead items to protect project schedules.
• Coordinate and track fabrication progress, adjust schedules as required.
Field & Installation Coordination
• Coordinate handoff between shop production and field installation teams.
• Verify site readiness prior to delivery and installation to prevent delays.
• Drive punch list completion and closeout documentation.
• Track field labor budgets and installation timelines.
Financial & Cost Tracking
• Assist with job cost tracking and budget monitoring.
• Prepare progress billing documentation and lien waivers.
• Identify, communicate, and mitigate cost overruns and project risks.
Qualifications
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field preferred but not required.
• 2+ years of experience in commercial construction or architectural millwork preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and millwork drawings.
• Understanding of commercial construction sequencing and site coordination.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (required) and Bluebeam (preferred).
Skills & Competencies
• Strong organizational, scheduling and problem solving skills.
• Professional communication skills when interacting with GCs and design teams.
• Ability to work effectively between office, shop, and field environments.
Work Environment
• Primarily office-based at Dallas, TX manufacturing facility. Frequent job site visits.
• Regular interaction with production floor and project management personnel.
• Fast-paced commercial construction environment with strict deadlines.
